Pulteney is the most northern distillery on the Scottish mainland and situated in the town of Wick. The distillery is named after Sir William Johnstone Pulteney, who also was the founder of the Pulteneytown harbour. The Thomas Telford designed Pulteneytown was once the largest herring port in Europe. Pulteney is a one of the few remaining urban distilleries. Inver House bought Pulteney in 1995 and it is one of their top selling brands. They also market it as ‘The Genuine Maritime Malt’ and one can relate to this the whisky has a lightly slated taste.
