Miltonduff distillery was established in 1824 and was extensively modernised in the 1930s when it was taken over by Hiram Walker. Two Lomond stills where added in 1964 this was for production of a second malt called Mosstowie. More modernisation took place in the 1970s. In 1981 the Mosstowie stills where changed to increase production of the Miltonduff malt. Mosstowie malt was no longer produced. Mosstowie is still available in the Connoisseurs Choice Range from Gordon & MacPhail. Allied Distillers acquired Miltonduff in 1992. Only a small amount of the malt produced is sold as single malt. Most either goes into Allied Group blends such as Teachers, Ballantine's and Old Smuggler or is sold to other blenders. In general the house style for the Miltonduff distillery tends to be: Flowery, clean, firm, elegant. Makes a fine fragrant after dinner dram.
