Glenmorangie has been producing its famous malt since 1843. It is situated in Tain, north of Inverness. The unique trait of the distillery is that it has the tallest stills in Scotland at 26 feet. They are designed after the original gin stills that were used in the 19th century and the height allows for a more refined and purer spirit. Glenmorangie is also serious about wood finishes. They paved the way in 1994 when they released a Port Wood Finish and since then have released a number of expressions, Burgundy, Madeira, Cognac and Rioja to name a few and has seen other distillers follow suit. Glenmorangie is the best-selling malt in Scotland and when it was put up for sale in 2004 it attracted frantic bidding with Luis Vuitton Moet Hennessey (LVMH) securing the final bid.
