Lochside started its life as a brewery in the early 19th century. It wasn’t till 1957 when Joseph Hobbs converted it to start producing whisky, where he installed a 67-foot Coffey still and the first few years grain whisky was produced. Pot stills were installed in 1961 and the resultant whisky was used largely in the Macnab’s blend. Lochside was acquired by Destilerias y Crianza in 1973 and later Allied Domecq in 1994. The last distillation took place in 1992 and then Lochside was subsequently mothballed. Allied Domecq has since sold the premises to a developer and they demolished.
