Glenfiddich is one of the best known, and best loved, of all the Scottish single malts. That’s appropriate because they, more than anyone, helped introduce the world to the pleasures of single malt whisky. It was during the 1960s that the owners of the Glenfiddich distillery, the Grant family, decided to export and promote single malt Scottish whisky. Most industry ‘experts’ thought this was folly at the time but their vision helped create the path for this wonderful industry today.
The distillery itself is in Dufftown on Speyside and was established in 1886. Remarkably the distillery and the Glenfiddich name is still owned by the same family today, the Grant family. Glenfiddich is one of only a handful of independently owned distilleries left in Scotland, astonishingly it is estimated that one in five bottles of single malt sold in the world today is from Glenfiddich.
