It was built in 1975 to supply malt whisky for Chivas Regal Blends. Allt-a-Bhainne means “the milk burn” in Gaelic. The distillery sits on the lower slopes of Benrinnes and draws its water from the nearby springs. It was designed to run with minimal staff and its spirit is matured in warehouses elsewhere. It was expanded in 1989 and production was doubled. After a period of closure in 2002, it re-opened in 2005 and is now if full production.
Allt a Bhainne single malt whisky is rare and hard to find, however being based in Speyside, in the heart of malt whisky country, does have its advantages. We've currently got stock of the following, the Allt a Bhainne 12 Year Old 1996 French Oak, Allt-a-Bhainne 17 Year Old 1991 Old Malt Cask and the Allt a Bhainne 1991 Connoisseurs Choice.
